Habitat: Crenobiont; preferably in shaded rheohelocrenes rich in fine mineralic sediments (sand, gravel). Distribution: Central-and Southern Italy , Corsica . Genus Mixobates Thor, 1905 Diagnosis: Distribution of membranous integument, and formation of coxae and gnathosoma, as in Hygrobates , but occasionally (not in the Italian species) all coxae fused into a coxal shield. Cx-IV perforated by a large, central glandular opening. I-L-5 distoventrally with a pair of short, thickened setae. Genital field with three pairs of acetabula. Male gonopore completely surrounded by sclerotization, female gonopore in the Italian species flanked by paired genital plates. P-2 with or without ventral projection. Remark: Described as a subgenus of Hygrobates , later on ranked at genus level ( COOK 1974 ).
