PRIACANTHIDAE
Priacanthus hamrur
(Forsskål, 1775)
, was recorded on the basis of a single specimen from the coast of
Tunisia
(
Abdelmouleh, 1981
). According to
Starnes (1988)
, the taxonomic status and origin of the above recorded fish are unclear. Its validity is also questioned by Golani (2010).
Priacanthus arenatus
Cuvier, 1829
, was recorded in the Gulf of Cagliari (
Tortonese & Cau, 1985
) and in the Strait of Messina (
Costa, 1991
). This species is not included in the list of non native fishes recorded in Italian waters (
Orsi Relini, 2010
) and, according to
Relini and Lanteri (2010)
, requires further study.
