ANDHRA PRADESH : Visakhapatnam (Waltair)— Ganapati & Rao (1967) , Rao & Ganapati (1968b) ; ODISHA ( Orissa ): Puri, Konarak—Rao (1969), Nagabhusanam (1972) ; KERALA : Fort Kochi (Cochin), Azhikode beach, Neendakara beach—Govindankutty & Nair (1967 , 1972), Nair & Govindankutty (1972) , Rajan & Nair (1979) ; GENERAL RECORD: Naidu & Rao (2004) . Habitat (as in Indian records). Marine, intertidal; fine and medium sands, 15 cm below surface near midwater level. Distribution. Originally described from the Roscoff area ( France ), the species has been subsequently recorded from several areas and localities including, North Europe, British Islands, Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic and Gulf coast of the USA and India . Remarks. According to the literature, the species appears to be eurytopic, having been found at different depths and in sediments of various grain size. The wide distribution, the variety of habitats, and descriptions, which sometime are discordant, call for a better comparison of the geographic populations, hopefully comparisons will include molecular data.
