Opisthosoma
dorsally rounded, with 61 (60–64) narrow dorsal semiannuli, 64 (64– 75) narrow ventral semiannuli (counted from first annulus after coxae II) and 5 (4–5) semiannuli between coxae and coverflap plus 3 transversal rows of lined granules at base of genital coverflap. Microtubercles circular on posterior part of annuli up to 5–6 annuli before setae
f
. Relicts of microtubercles on rear margin of 5–6 dorsal semiannuli before setae
f
appearing as thickening of annulus margin. Setae

Etymology
. The specific epithet is the genitive case of the species name,
virgata
, of the
type
host plant.
Differential diagnosis
. The new species herein described has many similarities to
Aceria squarrosae
de Lillo
et al
. 2003, which was collected from
Centaurea squarrosa
Willd.
in
Turkey
. The Iranian species displays differences mainly in the prodorsal shield pattern which is characterized largely by having shorter median, admedian and submedian lines than those observed on
A. squarrosae
. No dashes are present between the median and admedian lines on the posterior half of the prodorsal shield in contrast with
A. squarrosae
. Minor differences include the higher number of semiannuli between the coxae and the genital area and fewer striae on the genital coverflap of
A. virgatae
in respect to
A. squarrosae
. Finally, the coxal plates of
A. virgatae
are provided with sparse dots instead of the dashes as observed on
A. squarrosae
.
