Schasiura gymnelioides
Zerny, 1912b
: 123
.
Holotype
male, by monotypy: “SOUTH
AMERICA
”; with four handwritten labels: “Heyne amer. merid. 1873”; “
Mann
abgeb. 1875”; “?
Autochloris
sp.”; and “
Schasiura gymnelioides Zerny
type

Current combination.
Schasiura gymnelioides
Zerny, 1912
.
Condition of the
type
.
Right forewing damaged. Right antenna and most legs missing.
Remarks.
The genus
Schasiura
Butler, 1877
includes two species,
S. gymnelioides
and
S. mimica
Butler, 1877
, the
type
species. There are no obvious characters uniting these two species that are not shared by many others currently classified in various genera (
e.g.,
Osmocneme bracata
Draudt, 1917
,
type
species of the monotypic genus
Osmocneme
Draudt, 1917
, and various species of
Autochloris
Hübner, 1819
,
Gymnelia
Walker, 1854
,
Dasysphinx
Felder, 1874
, and
Homoeocera
Felder, 1874
). A re-evaluation of the taxonomic position of
S. gymnelioides
will require a comprehensive study of these and perhaps other related genera.
Schasiura
was used by
Hampson (1914)
as Hampson’s (1898) concept of
Autochloris
(Julian P. Donahue, personal communication). Because
Autochloris
was placed in
Euchromiina
by
Forbes (1939)
, we kept this subtribal assignment.
