Type data:
This species was described based on a single female specimen collected by the German merchant and botanist Carl August Ehrenberg (1801‒1849). Carl dedicated himself to commerce and travelled through Saint Thomas (1827‒1828),
Haiti
(1828‒1831) and
Mexico
(1831‒1840). From all those places he sent to the
ZMB
rich zoological and botanical collections (
Papavero & Ibáñez-Bernal 2001
), including the specimen studied by Friese to describe this species. The

is currently housed at
ZMB
