TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus et planitie ditionis parmensis [ Parmese hills and plains ( Italy )]” . TYPE MATERIAL: 3 ♂♂ , syntypes (one missing left mid-leg; one missing mid-legs) ( MZUF : Box 13): Exorista Mgn / comata Rnd. / 640; 1 specimen , syntype (sex not determinable) ( MSNC : Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Exorista comata R. 384 Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 5, posiz. B-5 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI ) ex collezione Rondani. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Carcelia lucorum ( Meigen, 1824 ) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 214 ) . REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 137) described Exorista comata from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens and giving a single measurement of length: “ Mascula tantum pauca inveni [I found a few males only]”. We found four syntypes in this study: three males in the MZUF and one specimen (sex not determinable) in the MSNC . An additional MZUF specimen numbered “640” is not included in the type series because its label is yellowish rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and is in a lower row in the Box, for which reason we treat it to be a subsequent addition .
