Habitat preference:
According to
Červená
et al
. (2021b)
,
Chernes hahnii
is strictly associated with tree microhabitats. It prefers open areas, where it can be found under tree bark, but sometimes in forests (
Beier 1963a
). In
Slovakia
it was found in bird nest (
Christophoryová
et al.
2011d
;
Christophoryová
et al
. 2017b
) and in heaps of decomposing material (
Kaňuchová
et al.
2015
), from compost heaps (
Christophoryová
et al
. 2017a
), from ant nests (
Christophoryová
et al
. 2017b
), in dead wood and in tree hollow, and under tree bark (
Christophoryová
et al
. 2017c
), and it was also collected by sifting of organic material, and sifting of rotten hay garden waste and compost (
Krajčovičová
et al.
2012
). In
Hungary
, it has been reported from the debris of a horse stable (Novák 2018). During the present study it was found in the following habitats: softwood groves, willow swamps, plant debris from a garden, from plane trees, under poplar wood, willow-poplar groves, under bark of plane trees and oak trees, oak forests on loess, and from barns.
Remarks:
Chernes hahnii
was first reported from
Hungary
by
Mahnert (1983)
. Since then, it has been found in numerous new localities.
