Distribution.
Russia
(S Ural, Lower Volga), S Siberia.
Remarks.
S. lineolella
was described from S Ural. However, because it was considered a problematic species according to the criteria of the catalogue of European
Lepidoptera (
Karsholt
et al
. 1996
)
it was not mentioned in that work. Externally
S. lineolella
can be separated from the closely related
S. mongolica
Povolný, 1975
by the presence of a characteristic dark, distinct longitudinal basal streak in the forewing, which is missing in
mongolica
,
and by the smaller size of the adult (
11–15 mm
; in
mongolica
17–19 mm
). There are also differences in the male genitalia: in
S. lineolella
the valva is more slender and gradually curved from base to tip, and the aedeagus is distinctly shorter; in
S. mongolica
the valva is medially slightly broader and more strongly bent than in the other parts, and a narrow distal part of the aedeagus is longer. Recently described
S. radicalis
Falkovitsh & Bidzilya, 2003
also has a longitudinal basal streak in the forewing, but the adult is larger (
16–19 mm
) and paler, and in the male genitalia the valva and the aedeagus are more slender than those of
S. lineolella
(Bidzilya pers. comm.;
Falkovitsh & Bidzilya 2003
).
S. radicalis
has been reared from
Artemisia turanica
.
