A revision of the Afrotropical species of Pachylophus Loew (Diptera: Chloropidae) and some related Ovoviviparous genera Author Deeming, John C. text Zootaxa 2018 2018-09-17 4482 1 1 51 journal article 29184 10.11646/zootaxa.4482.1.1 72a80b13-e18f-4dc3-bec2-bb20d17f0e5f 1175-5326 1454415 79FECD6E-5192-45C3-9B46-4E6817366F64 Platycephala Fallén, 1820 Of the 28 known species of Platycephala two [ rugosa (Nartshuk ) and scapularum (Becker) ] were found to be monoovariolate. If these were to be placed in a separate genus, the remaining species would need to be examined for this mode of reproduction. Since three of these species ( palpata , rugosa , scapularum ), were originally described in the genus Eurina Meigen, 1830 , then species of Eurina too need to be examined before any further generic classification of all these species takes place. There being 28 known species of Platycephala and eleven of Eurina , it would mean examining all of them prior to erecting a new genus to accommodate those species which prove to be monoovariolate. Being unable to secure the necessary material, I can only comment on a part of them. These monoovariolate species, unlike Sabeurina , have the mesolobus haired and the surstylus articulated from the epandrium.
