Savannah, W 81º 4’: N 32º 4’, April 8, 1943 ( AMNH ). EXAMINED . Diagnosis: Males and females can be distinguished by their abdominal patterns ( Figs 258–260 ). From all other species, males are diagnosed by their narrow, elongate, ventral cymbial tubercle ( Fig. 255 ) and their snake tongueshaped lamella characteristica ( Fig. 254 ). From closely related species A. flax by their elongated posterior pocket of the paracymbium ( Fig. 254 ), spine-like in the latter ( Fig. 265 ). Females are diagnosed from all other Agyneta by the narrow proximal part of scape, enlarging and not reaching the base of the epigynum ( Fig. 261 ). Description: Male : Total length 1.55; carapace length 0.70, width 0.53. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace yellow, shiny, finely reticulate; margin, radiating lines strongly suffused with dark gray; trident mark often present. Sternum strongly suffused with dark gray. Clypeus height 3. Chelicerae yellow-orange, excavated; ~ 9 seta-tipped tubercles; promargin four teeth, retromargin three denticles, both margins with projection at base of fang. Cheliceral stridulatory organ ~ 58 striae, narrowly spaced throughout. ABDOMEN: Elongated, coloration off-white with large middle band flank by dark blackish bands ( Fig. 258 ). LEGS: Light yellow, femurs with retrolateral and prolateral with dark blackish line; leg I total length: 2.46; leg III total length: 1.69; Tm I: 0.22, Tm IV: absent. GENITALIA: Palpal retrolateral tibial apophysis large and rugose; dorsal tibial apophysis absent; two retrolateral and one dorsal trichobothria ( Fig. 254 ). Cymbium triangular; glabrous depression present ( Fig. 254 ); dorsal cymbial turbercle small, pointed and smooth; ventral cymbial tubercle elongated, rounded and smooth; prolateral notch shallow ( Fig. 255 ). Paracymbium apical pocket short, anterior pocket short and curved, posterior pocket wide and pointed ( Fig. 254 ). Embolus tip rounded, thin; Fickert’s gland basal, slightly enlarged; ventral lamella transparent, pointed; thumb short, reaching below the embolus proper ( Fig. 256 ). Embolus proper set apically, small ( Fig. 256 ). Anterior terminal apophysis short with numerous short protrusions, with a small and a large well sclerotized processes; posterior terminal apophysis with rounded, wide, rugose tip; lamella characteristica long and wide, ending in two large points and a large transparent extension with long protrusions ( Fig. 257 ). Female : Total length 1.53; carapace length 0.64, width 0.48. CEPHALOTHORAX: Coloration as in male. Chelicerae promargin four teeth, retromargin four denticles. Cheliceral stridulatory organ, ~52 striae, narrowly spaced. ABDOMEN: Pattern variable, uniformly off-white or with apical dark mark and a broken chevron basally ( Fig. 259 ) or else with median, elongated mark and one chevron basally ( Fig. 260 ). LEGS: Coloration as male; palpal tarsal claw absent, palpal tibia and metatarsus suffused with dark gray; leg I total length: 2.21; leg III total length: 1.55; Tm I: 0.22, Tm IV: absent. GENITALIA: Epigynum with proximal part of scape anteriorly narrow, enlarging ( 2x ); epigynal slits very large; pit hook depression absent ( Fig. 261 ); lateral lobes very long; stretcher small; pit not observed ( Figs 262, 264 ). Median part of scape short and narrow; genital pores situated at base of lateral lobes pockets ( Fig. 263 ).
