NOV. Bombilactobacillus (Bom.bi.lac.to.ba.cil’lus. L. masc. n. bombus , buzzing of beesand bumblebees, N.L. masc. n. Lactobacillus a bacterial genus; N.L. masc. n. Bombilactobacillus , a lactobacillus from bees and bumble bees). Bombilactobacillus species have been isolated from the stomach and the hindgut of honey bees ( Apis mellifera ) and bumble bees where they are associated with the heterofermentative sister genus Apilactobacillus . Bombilactobacillus species have genome sizeswhich rangefrom 1.81 to 1.84 Mbp anda mol% G+C content ranging from 34.7 to 39.5. They are homofermentative and thermophilic; comparableto other insect-associated lactobacilli, bombilactobacilli ferment only a narrow spectrum of carbohydrates. Aphylogenetic tree on the basis of 16S rRNA genes of all species in the genus Bombilactobacillus is provided in Fig. S6B . The type species is Bombilactobacillus mellifer comb. nov ; Bombilactobacillus was previously referred to as L. mellifer group.
