Carex canescens
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
2
: 974. 1753
.
"Habitat in Europa septentrionali." RCN: 7070.
Lectotype
(Toivonen in
Ann. Bot. Fenn.
18: 94, f. 1. 1981): [icon] "
Gramen cyperoides
spicis curtis divulsis
" in Loesel, Fl. Prussica: 117, t. 32. 1703 (see p. 140).
Current name:
Carex canescens
L.
(
Cyperaceae
).
Note:
Marshall (in
J. Bot.
45: 365. 1907) proposed the abandonment of this name because of difficulties in establishing its application. Although some authors took up
C. buxbaumii
Wahlenb.
in its place, most recent authors (e.g.
Luceno
in
Ruizia
14: 50. 1994; Egorova,
Sedges Russia
: 558. 1999) appear to have adopted
Toivonen's
typification and are using the Linnaean name in the sense of
C. curta
Good.
