The genus Piciformobia is currently composed of six species, including the new one described below, occurring on birds of the families Cuculidae , Galbulidae and Troglodytidae in the New World ( Gaud & Atyeo 1975 , Alzuet et al . 1988 , Mironov et al . 2014 ): P. ani ( Černý, 1975 ) from Crotophaga ani Linnaeus, 1758 , P. guirae Alzuet et al ., 1988 from Guira guira (Gmelin, 1788) ( Cuculiformes : Cuculidae ), P. tetracanthura Gaud & Atyeo, 1975 from Galbula cyanescens Deville, 1849 ( Galbuliformes : Galbulidae ), P. henicorhinae Mironov et al ., 2014 from Henicorhina leucosticta (Cabanis, 1847) , and P. cinnycerthiae Mironov et al ., 2014 from Cinnycerthia unirufa (Lafresnaye, 1840) ( Passeriformes : Troglodytidae ). The new mite described herein represents the second species of this genus living on the Guira Cuckoo , G. guira .
