Comments:
Hyperolius platyceps
is a species found in northern
Angola
and ranging from southern
Cameroon
to southwestern
Republic of the Congo
, western
Democratic Republic of the Congo
, and southwestern
Central African Republic
(
Marques
et al.
2018
;
Frost 2020
). Specimens of this species were used by
Ferreira (1906)
to describe three new taxa -
Rappia platyceps
var
angolensis
(“N’Golla Bumba” and “Quilombo”);
Rappia fasciata
(“Quilombo”) and
Rappia bivittata
(“Rio Luinha”, “Quilombo” e “N’Golla Bumba”). All of these are currently considered junior synonyms of
H. platyceps
(
Ceríaco
et al.
2014b
;
Marques
et al.
2018
;
Frost 2020
). Specimen MHNCUP/ANF 205 is a
syntype
for
Rappia platyceps
var
angolensis
; MHNCUP/ANF 206 is the
holotype
for
Rappia fasciata
and MHNCUP/ANF 207–209 are the
syntypes
for
Rappia bivittata
.
Ceríaco
et al.
(2014b)
stated that MHNCUP/ ANF 209 was the
lectotype
, while MHNCUP/ANF 207–208 should be considered
paralectotypes
. Specimen MHNCUP/ANF 215 has an internal label stating “
Paratype
de
Rappia osorioi Ferreira
/
est
en fait un
Hyperolius platyceps
fasciatus (Ferreira)”. This type-written note was most likely written by either
Laurent (1982)
or
Perret (1976b)
, as both authors examined the jar (
Ceríaco
et al.
2014b
).
