Fig. 17A–C Diagnosis. This species is readily distinguishable from all other Diallactiini by the male genitalic characters referred to in the generic diagnosis of Makrostyles . Male description. Body 2.7–2.9 mm long, mostly orange-yellow, antennae, scutellum and legs light brownish. Head. Genal setae 10–20, loosely clustered. Eye bridge 8–9 ommatidia long dorsally, covering all vertex. Scape and pedicel concolorous with flagellum, scape with 1 seta, pedicel unsetose. Flagellomeres 14. Neck of fourth flagellomere (Fig. C) 1.2 times longer than node; node with short setae basally, in between usually a few short hairlike translucent sensilla, a crenulate whorl with long sensory hairs with hooded alveoli medially, more such sensory hairs scattered distally, especially ventrally, numerous short hair-like translucent sensilla distally, microtrichia only basally. Clypeus usually unsetose, occasionally with 1 seta. Palpus 1.1 times longer than head height, 4 segments, translucent sensilla on first to third segments, simply hair-shaped, fourth segment longest. Thorax. Both scutal and scutellar setae sparse. Wing length / width 2.6–2.7 (Fig. B). Membrane completely covered with setae. Costal break distinct; Rs somewhat darkened; btv setose; both M1+2 and M4 absent; CuA extending to wing margin. Legs without scales. Coxae slightly darker than other segments, tarsi brighter. Basitarsi without spine. Claws slightly bent, untoothed. Empodia vestigial. Genitalia. Ninth tergite subtrapezoid, setose. Gonocoxae (Fig. A): ventral bridge unsetose, with weak transverse suture; ventral emargination small, U-shaped; medial bridges densely setose. Gonostylus (Fig. A) slightly convex laterally, somewhat swollen dorsomedially, setae sparse medially. FIGURE 17A–C. Makrostyles terrifica , male. A: Genitalia, ventral (holotype). B: Wing (paratype). C: Fourth flagellomere, lateral (paratype). Scales for A, C, 0.05 mm, for B, 1.0 mm. Etymology. The species epithet, terrifica , is the Latin word for awe-inspiring, which refers to the huge gonostylar tooth characteristic of this species. Type material. Holotype .
