Trichomyia , Haseman ( nec Haliday), 1907: 323; Rapp, 1944: 209 . Diagnosis. Only known to occur in the Western Hemisphere. Larvae. Dorsoventrally compressed with a longitudinal row of eight suctorial discs ventrally; inhabiting madicolous habitats, streams and shallow rivers. Pupa. Dorsoventrally compressed with abdominal segments much wider than long, longer laterally than in the midline, terminal segment nearly circular. Adults. Antenna with 13–14 fusiform flagellomeres with digitiform ascoids shorter than the flagellomeres in which it is inserted; wings long (at least 4X longer than wide) and narrow (maximum width less than 2X width at base) with acute apex; aedeagus in most species set with with a group of longitudinal sclerotized spines internally; male epandrial appendage with a single tenaculum inserted at apex. Remarks. Previously only Maruina ( Maruina ) lanceolata was known to have 13, rather than 14 flagellomeres. Here we describe three other species with this character state, one belonging to M. ( Maruina ) and two in M. ( Aculcina ).
