Material examined. HBUMM-00332 (eight mature specimens. All measured; specimen-6 dissected): Nanping, (33°12΄ N, 104°12΄ E), Sichuan, China , 2004-V-7 , coll. M.Wu. Distribution. Sichuan ( type locality). Type locality. Nanping (Sichuan, China—previously Gansu, as in the original description). Diagnosis. Shell bandless; not striate. Aperture with angular tubercle. Most swollen part at penultimate and body whorls. With 7.250–7.750 whorls; height 14.0–17.9, diam. maj. 7.1–8.7. Penis without penial caecum; internally with more than two fine longitudinal pilasters. Papilla developed by fused distal pilasters forming V-shaped structure present. Epiphallus straight. Epiphallic caecum present. Re-description of shell. Pointed-ovate; apex protruded. Most swollen part at penultimate and body whorls. Shell dextral; thin; solid; semitranslucent; glossy; with 7.250–7.563–7.750 whorls. Whorls not speckled; not spirally grooved, not shouldered, convex. Growth lines usually not very clear. Embryonic shell smooth; polished, with 1.375–1.609–1.750 whorls. Postnuclear whorls smooth. Suture normal, without narrow defined zone on beneath whorl. Last whorl gradually ascending towards aperture; rounded at periphery; without smoothed spiral peripheral depression nor rugate region. Shell 14.0–15.9–17.9 high; 7.1–7.9– 8.7 in diam. maj. Height/width ratio 1.81–2.01–2.28. Aperture completely attached to body whorl; ovate; not adnate; rather oblique; not armed; with angular tubercle; in a plane; 6.1–7.0–7.7 high, 5.2–5.6–6.6 wide. Ratio of shell height to aperture height 2.09–2.28–2.41. Peristome reflexed, straight and not curved backward; expanded; thickened. Parietal callus indistinct. Columellar margin reflexed. Umbilicus narrowly open. Shell uniformly coloured; dark brown, aperture white or reddish tinted. FIGURE 1. Distribution map of Pupinidius spp. Red dot, Pupinidius anocamptus , P . nanpingensis nanpingensis and P . nanpingensis ambigua ; red circle, P . porrectus ; black dot, P . pupinella altispirus ; black circle, P . chrysalis ; blue dot, P . obrutschewi contractus and P . pupinella pupinella ; blue circle: P . latilabrum ; green dot, P . melinostoma , P . nanpingensis nanpingensis and P . wenxian sp. nov. ; yellow dot, P . obrutschewi obrutschewi and P . streptaxis ; yellow circle, P . porrecta pygmaea . P . pupinidius and P . gregorii have not been mapped here due to the unrecognizable locality names. Although the original description of the type locality of P . chrysalis is not accurate and geographically wrong, mapping of the species is possible here based only on the recognized information therein. Genitalia. Vas deferens long; proximally swollen; entering epiphallus apically with distinct demarcation. Epiphallus long; cylindrical; of uniform thickness; generally almost straight; externally smooth. Epiphallic caecum blunt apically; located near vas deferens entrance. Flagellum present; short; tubular; proximally normal; with tip blunt. Penis terminates distally at epiphallus; clavate; without penial caecum; distally enlarged; thin-walled; internally with more than two fine longitudinal pilasters; with one V-shaped pilaster. Vshaped pilaster with proximal free end approaching at penial retractor insertion. A papilla developed by fused proximal of V-shaped structure present. Papilla in median size. Penis without process. Penial verge absent. Penial appendix rather long; branched off from penis at some distance from atrium; divided into sections including A-1+A-2, A-3 and A-4+A-5. A-1 and A-2 fused, interiorly with fine longitudinal pilasters. A-2 near A-3 internally without a ring of papilla. A-2 and A-3 not fused. A-3 opening into A-2 by short papilla. Boundary between A-4 and A-5 indistinct. A-5 short; straight. Penial retractor biramous; attaching to penis and to A-2 near the insertion near A-3; with penial retractor arms arising from diaphragm separately. Additional retractor other than penial or appendicular retractor absent. Muscular band connecting vagina and epiphallus absent. Atrium short; without retractor. Free oviduct much shorter than vagina. Vagina moderately long; not swollen; straight; not lined with loose, spongy tissue; unpigmented. Bursa copulatrix duct moderately long; proximally straight. Bursa copulatrix with stalk; without apical ligament; normal in size; with long neck; well defined. Diverticle longer than reservoir; expanded especially terminally. Bursa copulatrix and diverticle distinguishable; forked more distally from their base. Spermatophore unknown. Measurement of genitalia. P: 2.6; Ep: 10.3; Fl: 0.7. VD: 7.4.
