( Figs 110, 111 , 169 , 214 ) Diagnosis. Telemiades esmeraldas Siewert, Mielke & Casagrande , sp. nov. is distinguished from other species of the “ centrites group” by the hind wings completely dark brown in DW and with an yellowish patch (about 0.5 mm ) on outer margin in CuA 1 –3A in VHW. Description. Head: frond and vertex dark brown. Eyes surrounded by yellow scales. Labial palpi with first and second segments dark brown and yellowish; third segment dark brown. Antennae dark brown, base of each segment ventrally cream; apiculus ventrally cream; nudum of 22 segments. Thorax : dorsally and ventrally dark brown with yellowish scales. FW : length of males 24 mm (n=2). DFW ( Fig. 110 ): ground color dark brown; two dark brown cellular spots (upper and lower); dark brown spot at distal margin of discal cell; three dark brown apical spots in M 3 –CuA 1 , CuA 1 –CuA 2 , and CuA 2 –2A; three dark brown discal spots in R 3 –R 4 , R 4 –R 5 , and R 5 –M 1 , the last smaller; five dark brown submarginal spots in R 3 –R 4 , R 4 –R 5 , R 5 –M 1 , M 1 –M 2 , and M 2 –M 3 . DHW ( Fig. 110 ): ground color dark brown. VFW ( Fig. 111 ): as DFW; ground color lighter. VHW ( Fig. 111 ): as DHW; six dark brown submarginal spots as an irregular band in Sc+R 1 –Rs, Rs–M 1 , M 1 –M 2 , M 2 –M 3 , M 3 –CuA 1 , and CuA 1 –CuA 2 ; yellowish patch on outer margin from CuA 1 to 3A, with about 0.5 mm . Abdome : dorsal and ventral dark brown with yellowish scales. Male genitalia ( Fig. 169 ): tegumen rectangular, posterior margin with two pairs of lateral apophysis. Anterior projection of saccus triangular, anterior margin rounded. Uncus rectangular, almost half size of tegumen, distal margin with two lateral quadrate and truncated projections. Valva rectangular, three times longer than wide; costa rounded; distal margin elongated and serrated; sacculus rectangular, about 1/3 the length of valva. Fultura inferior distally bifid, with distal margin rounded. Aedeagus cylindrical; insertion of manica in the middle of aedeagus; opening for ejaculatory bulb rounded; distal margin truncated; opening for vesica about 1/3 of size of aedeagus; cornuti as numerous sharped spines with same size, disposed in lines. Female unknown. Distribution. Telemiades esmeraldas sp. nov. is only known from its type locality. Etymology. The specific epithet is named after the Department of Esmeraldas , Ecuador , where the specimens were collected. Taxonomic discussion. Although clearly part of the “ centrites group”, T. esmeraldas sp. nov. is easily distinguished from the species of this group by VHW being completely dark brown with a yellowish patch on the outer margin in CuA 1 to 3A, with a 0.5 mm wide. Telemiades esmeraldas sp. nov. was collected in the Department of Esmeraldas , Ecuador , in the biogeographic region of Chocó, an area considered a biodiversity hotspot due to the high degree of endemism ( Gentry 1992 ).
