A widespread Palaearctic species ranging from
Ireland
and the Pyrenees eastward to Transbaikalia and
Mongolia
. Mongolian specimens belong to the form
iliata
Schütze, rather than to the nominate European form, the former being slightly larger and having a less contrasting wing pattern. This species was first recorded for the fauna of
Mongolia
from Chang(ai) in the Catalogue of
Staudinger & Rebel (1901)
.
