Schreiteriana
Fletcher & Nye, 1982
Type species (by monotypy)—
Schreiteria pectinicornis
Dyar, 1937
.
Schreiteriana
was suggested as an objective replacement name for
Schreiteria
Dyar, 1937
(Fletcher & Nye 1982)
. The monotypic
Schreiteria
was established for
Schreiteria pectinicornis
Dyar, 1937
, but it proved to be a junior homonym of
Schreiteria
Melzer, 1933
(
Coleoptera
:
Cerambycidae
,
Lamiinae
,
Parmenini
).
Shreiteria
Dyar, the original generic name for
pectinicornis
, was included in the Key to the
Zeuzerinae
by
Dyar (1937
: 1265).
Schoorl (1990: 227)
calls into question the placement of
Schreiteriana
in the
Cossidae
. As an argument, Schoorl gives the peculiarities of the thorax structure of the syntype
Schreiteria pectinicornis
Dyar, 1937
. Citation: “The thorax of
pectinicornis
is very similar to that in
Cossula magnifica
… The mesepimeron lacks a pale band. The male retinaculum has a very long base. The uncus is broad and gradually rounded. Because of these differences, especially the type of mesepimeron,
Schreiteriana
is excluded from the
Cossidae
”.
Edwards et al. (1999)
and
Davis et al. (2008)
, clearly states problems with Schoorl’s choice of characters across his study. The study of genitalia of
S. pectinicornis
(
Dyar, 1937
)
indicated that this taxon belongs to the subfamily
Zeuzerinae
.
