Dicheirus dilatatus angulatus Casey, 1914
Dicheirus angulatus
Casey, 1914: 199. Type locality: "San Diego [San Diego County], California" (original citation). Six syntypes [6 originally cited] in USNM [# 47952].
Dicheirus blaisdelli
Van Dyke, 1926a: 125. Type locality: "Poway, San Diego County, California" (original citation). Holotype (♀) in CAS [# 1869]. Synonymy established by Noonan (1968: 299). Etymology. The species name was proposed for Frank Elsworth Blaisdell [1862-1947], physician and professor of surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. Blaisdell was also a naturalist and interested in beetles, particularly the
Tenebrionidae
and
Melyridae
. He gave his collection of almost 200,000 beetles to the California Academy of Sciences where he pursued his interest after his retirement. In my opinion, his taxonomic treatment of the large and difficult tenebrionid genus
Eleodes
in 1909 is exceptional and avant-gardist.
Distribution.
This subspecies is known from a few localities in southernmost California and northern Baja California [see Noonan 1968: Fig. 19].
