Messatoporus unidentatus

(

)
Messatoporus unidentatus
Santos,
2013
in
Santos & Aguiar (2013:198)
.
Holotype
♀
at UFES (examined).
Variation
(Female). The specimens studied are more recent than those used in the original description, revealing colors generally stronger and more contrasting. In particular, brown areas observed in the
holotype
and
paratypes
are less frequent in the new specimens, replaced by larger areas of intense black. In the
holotype
, the large yellow area posteriorly on propodeum is continuous, with a brown spot at petiolar foramen, but in one of the
paratypes
and in all the new female specimens there is a black longitudinal stripe extending from the petiolar foramen to the anterior black area, resulting in two yellow marks, one on each side (as in
Fig. 18
), somewhat as in
M. bimaculatus
Santos.
The hind coxa is dorsally yellow and laterally and ventrally black, or at most with a longitudinal streak of brown between the yellow and black areas; the petiole is fully black, except apical 0.15 yellow; the mid femur is black, except antero-lateral face yellow. The
holotype
is the only specimen where the limit between 1m-cu and 1- Rs+M is clearly traceable, showing also a more or less distinct ramellus.
Male
(
Figs 17–18
). The color pattern is quite similar to that of the female, except by the yellow on the pronotal collar reaching the posterior apex (
vs
. ending distinctly before posterior apex in the female) and the metapleuron about 70–80% black (
vs
. about 85% yellow on
holotype
, and 45–50% on most other females). Otherwise, differs from the female mostly because of typical secondary sexual differences, namely body size generally smaller, with fore wing
5.92–6.94 mm
(
vs
. 8.30–11.38); antennae with 24–25 flagellomeres (
vs
. 21, rarely 22–23), with white band extending from f10 to f15–16 (
vs
. f6 to f10–12); and postscutellum apex very narrowly yellow, or entirely black (
vs
. bright yellow).
Variation
(Male). No significant morphological variation observed.
