We examined the types of Filistatoides insignis and compared them with the types of F. polita Franganillo (1936, fig. 16) that were recently located in the IES collection. The male palps, of Filistata polita types resemble those of Filistatoides insignis by the presence of the cylindrical palpal tibiae without a dorsal-retrolateral projection, which is diagnostic to the genus Filistatoides ; but can be distinguished by its strongly curved embolus ( Figs 3C‒D , 6C , 8E‒F ) with many projections on the tip ( Fig. 6E‒H ). Moreover, additional material examined from several Cuban localities provided only specimens assignable to Filistata polita which seems to be endemic to this island. Therefore, we are revalidating this species and transferring it to Filistatoides . Other material examined. CUBA . Filistatoides polita can be distinguished from other species by the strongly curved embolus ( Figs 3C‒D , 6C , 8E‒F ) with many projections on the tip ( Fig. 6E‒H ). Females can be distinguished by the elongate base of the spermathecae with thicker necks than in other species ( Figs 3E , 8G ). Description. Male (Santiago de Cuba , Dos Caminos de San Luis, IBSP 166704). Carapace yellow, with lateral margins, ocular area and posterior eye area black. Chelicerae orange. Labium and endites yellow, sternum white. Legs yellow with sparse black stripes. Abdomen dorsally white with 6–7 black chevrons ( Fig. 3A ). Total length 3.5. Carapace length 1.4, width 1.0. PME separated by almost half their diameter. Palp measurements: femur 1.0 long, patella 0.4 long, tibia 0.7 long, 0.3 wide. Leg measurements: I femur 2.1/ patella 0.5/ tibia 3.0/ metatarsus 1.2/ tarsus 1.2/ total 9.3; II 1.7/ 0.4/ 1.7/ 1.6/ 0.8/ 6.2; III 1.3/ 0.4/ 1.1/ 1.3/ 0.6/ 4.7; IV 1.8/ 0.5/ 1.7/ 1.8/ 0.86/ 6.6. Palp with tibia larger than bulb, enlarged in distal area ( Figs 3C‒D , 8E‒F ). Embolus with a few slightly pronounced ventral distal furrows and many projections on the tip ( Fig. 6E‒H ). Abdomen 1.9 long. Female (Same as male, IBSP 166704). Coloration as in male ( Fig. 3B ). Total length 4.5. Carapace length 1.7, width 1.2. PME separated by half their diameter. Leg measurements: I femur 1.8/ patella 0.5/ tibia 2.1/ metatarsus 1.7/ tarsus 0.9/ total 7.0; II 1.4/ 0.5/ 1.2/ 1.1/ 0.8/ 5.0; III 1.1/ 0.4/ 0.9/ 0.9/ 0.7/ 4.0; IV 1.6/ 0.5/ 1.3/ 1.2/ 0.7/ 5.3. Abdomen 2.5 long. Spermathecae with a large base leading to thicker than base neck ( Figs 3E , 8G ). Natural history . Specimens were collected in villages and rural areas from Cuba , mainly associated to walls in synanthropic environments. Distribution. Known only from Cuba ( Fig. 22 C).
