Milne-Edwards, 1869 ) Porcellana ( Pachycheles ) crassa A. Milne-Edwards 1869: 128 , pl. 26, fig. 12. Pachycheles crassus .— Haig 1957b: 5 ; Haig 1960: 141 , fig. 4, pl. 31, fig. 1; Haig 1968: 57 , 68; Gore 1982: 8 ; Werding & Haig 1982: 65 . Material examined . None. Previous records from Panama . A. Milne-Edwards (1869) ; Haig (1960) ; Gore (1982) . Distribution . East Pacific: Mexico , Panama ( Panama Canal area, Las Perlas Is.) and Colombia ( Haig 1960 ; Gore 1982 ). Ecology . Intertidal and shallow subtidal, presently known depth range: 0–8 m ; typically in crevices of rocks and coralline algae ( Haig 1960 ; Gore 1982 ). Remarks . Pachycheles crassus resembles the western Atlantic P. ackleianus in having the carapace transversely elongate; the P1coarsely granular; the telson composed of five plates; and the pleon without pleopods in males. However, in P. ackleianus , the P1 are less swollen than in P. crassus and possess a distinct tubercle near the base of the pollex (absent in P. crassus ); the granules of the P1 tend to form longitudinal rows instead of being evenly distributed as in P. crassus ; and the P2–P4 meri are covered with scattered setae, whilst being mostly glabrous in P. crassus ( Haig 1960 ) .
