Face whitish-grey pollinose except for large non-pollinose shiny black trapezoid area from central knob down to mouth edge in male, like in the female; frons in female with grey-pollinose narrow vitta along eye margin reaching posteriorly as far as anterior ocellus. Mesonotum with dense, short, orange-yellow and slightly to strongly sub appressed pile; anterior margin of scutum rather narrowly grey-pollinose; pleura more or less entirely non-pollinose and shiny except pollinose and dull on proepimeron, except postero-ventral corner which is non-pollinose and shiny, anterior 1/6–1/3 of anterior anepisternum and sometimes pilose dorsal part of katepisterum weakly pollinose and sub-shiny; scutellum with rather long orange-yellow pile. Mesofemur with rather short yellow pile, longest ventral pile about 2/3 as long as width of metafemur. Terga II and III medially short appressed black pilose, along lateral margin with long yellow pile; tergum IV on anterior half with erect black pile and on posterior half with appressed longer yellow pile; tergum I entirely and densely grey pollinose; sterna rather densely grey-brown pollinose except for lateral margin of terga II–IV with long but narrow non-pollinose and shiny vitta. Genitalia ( Figs 15 A–C): surstylus with concave ventral margin, rounded apex and straight dorsal margin, some long yellow pile on baso-dorsal corner; hypandrium in ventral view basally rounded with very weak medio-lateral corners, apical part only slightly narrower; superior lobe with rather wide and rounded incision apico-ventrally, apico-dorsal corner rounded; aedeagus baso-dorsally with long triangular extension and without apico-dorsal extension. Body length 9.5–11.1 mm (male), 10.6–11.7 mm (female); wing length 7.6–8.5 mm (male), 7.9–9.2 mm (female). FIGURE 14 . Adult head of Myolepta hoverflies, dorsal view. A . B . aedeagus, lateral view. C . hypandrium, ventral view. Scale 0.5 mm. Remarks . The first records for Luxemburg are here presented. The species Myolepta vara is well known based on the description in Reemer et al . (2005) , so it was unnecessary to examine the type . Distribution . Widespread in central Europe from northern Germany and the south of the Netherlands to Spain and Greece and eastwards to Azerbaijan .
