Distribution
Agua Blanca, Camarón, Panteón and Puerto Ángel Beaches and in Cacaluta Bay,
Oaxaca
. This is the first record of the genus from the southern Mexican Pacific.
Habitat
Benthic, littoral to sublittoral (
12 m
); under rocks, associated with encrusting bryozoans, green seaweed and chitons.
Remarks
Paraplanocera oligoglenoides
differs from
P. oligoglena
in the dorsal coloration pattern, the number of cerebral eyes, the intramuscular content of the surrounding spaces of the cirrus sac cavity, the epithelium of the accessory prostatic vesicle, and the orientation, position and morphology of the vagina and bursa copulatrix (see discussion of
Ramos-Sánchez
et al.
2019
).
Paraplanocera oligoglenoides
has a cirrus sac with spines distributed throughout the sac, paired conspicuous teeth, and lacks a penis papilla. It’s Lang’s vesicle is situated dorsal to the bursa copulatrix (sagittal view). The species also features a folded-elongate pharynx, with the mouth situated in the last third of the pharynx.
