Jeffreys listed the name Triforis aspera in his manuscript in 1873, but did not include any description of this species name. It was introduced formally by Jeffreys in 1885. Because of the homonymy with Triforis asper Deshayes, 1866 , Bouchet & Guillemot (1978) introduced the replacement name Triphora brychia .
