(= Dictyota papenfussii Lindauer ) Dark brown, flat, erect fronds, narrowing upwards, with subdichotomous to alternate branching. Axes frequently spirally twisted. Attached to solid substrates by primary, prostrate, dichotomously branched axes. Etymology The genus is named to recognise the contributions of Victor W. Lindauer (1888–1964), a pioneering New Zealand phycologist, and, in particular, his work documenting the brown algal flora.
