Gounelle (1909) described G. varians based on syntypes males and females (33, according to Martins 1967 ) from Brazil ( Goiás , Bahia , Minas Gerais , São Paulo ). Melzer (1935) described G. addictum from Brazil ( São Paulo , Santa Catarina ), which was considered as subspecies of G. varians by Martins (1967) . Later, Martins (2006) synonymized G. addictum with G. varians . Fisher (1937) described G. micans and G. micans var. brunneicaudatum from Brazil ( Santa Catarina ), both synonymized with G. varians by Martins (1967) . Currently, it is known from Brazil ( Goiás , Mato Grosso , Paraíba , Bahia , Minas Gerais , Espírito Santo , Rio de Janeiro , São Paulo , Paraná , Santa Catarina , and Rio Grande do Sul ), Bolivia ( Santa Cruz ), Paraguay , Argentina ( Salta , Misiones, Entre Ríos , and Buenos Aires ), and Uruguay ( Monné 2024a ; Tavakilian & Chevillotte 2023 ).
