REMARKS. The existence of the subspecies
L. m. lirata
(Blanford) to which all Iranian specimens have been referred is not supported by
Baig
et al.
(2012)
. The distinguishing characters (carinated scales and coloration) are apparently inconsistent and therefore not sufficient to recognize this form as an independent subspecies.
