The larva of Schizopelex huettingeri Malicky 1974 (Trichoptera: Sericostomatidae), including a preliminary key to the Sericostomatidae larvae of the Hellenic western Balkan region Author Karaouzas, Ioannis Author Waringer, Johann text Zootaxa 2017 4311 2 271 279 journal article 32326 10.11646/zootaxa.4311.2.8 f5cd8a3b-821f-4fbc-9354-79e26124d1ee 1175-5326 847578 A700167F-C2DD-432E-8286-96DBCB643203 Morphological diagnosis of fifth instar larva of Schizopelex huettingeri Malicky 1974 from other European Trichoptera A summary of morphological features for the identification of European caddisfly families was given by Waringer & Graf (2013) . Within the framework of the Sericostomatidae key by Pitsch (1993) , Wallace et al . (2003) , and Waringer & Graf (2011) , larvae of S . huettingeri are separable from other species by possessing the following features: - pro- and mesonota completely, metanotum incompletely sclerotized (meso- and metanotal sclerites may lack colour; Fig. 6 ms, mt); - mesonotum divided into pair of large, central sclerites ( Fig. 6 cs) and pair of small, lateral sclerites ( Fig. 6 ls); - with transportable cases ( Fig. 16 ); - prosternal horn lacking; - abdominal dorsum IX unsclerotized ( Fig. 14 ); - abdominal segment I with one dorsal and pair of lateral protuberances ( Fig. 11 ). In the context of the Sericostomatidae larvae of European Ecoregion 6 (Hellenic western Balkan region), the pronotum has a straight ventral margin in S . huettingeri ( Fig. 3 , dotted line) whereas it is curved in Sericostoma flavicorne , S. personatum ( Fig. 18 , dotted line), and Oecismus monedula ( Fig. 19 , dotted line). In S. festiva , present only on the Iberian peninsula, there is a black, comma-like spot on the lateral protuberance.
