Based on the material examination and the references, the generic diagnosis of male Thienemannimyia given by Murray and Fittkau (1989) can be emended as follows: “Antennal ratio 1.5–2.0” should be changed to “AR 0.35–2.1” [ 0.35 in T. dimorpha sp. n. , 2.1 in T. barberi ( Coquillett, 1902 ) ( Roback 1971 ) ]. The male antenna has 11 ( T. dimorpha sp. n. ) or 14 flagellomeres.
