Hartert (1918a: 26)
listed this specimen as the type of
C. brachydactyla
(effectively designating it the
lectotype
of
brachydactyla
) and possibly also the type of
C. megarhynchos
(see below).
Brehm (1820: 579–580)
had many specimens of
brachydactyla
, but said that he had seen his new form for the first time at the end of December, four years previously, not far from the Roda
River
, where he had collected
two specimens
on the same day and a third a day later. That statement points to the above specimen as one of the first three collected. It is the only Brehm specimen of
brachydactyla
in AMNH that was collected before the 1820 publication of the name. Brehm did not write
brachydactyla
on the label.
