TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insula Bonae Fortunae ( Borneo ) , Provincia Sarawak [ Bona Fortuna Island , Sarawak Province , Borneo ]” ( Rondani 1875c: 421 ) . TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂ , holotype (not a female as given in the description) (missing head, male terminalia in a plastic tube pinned below specimen) ( MSNG ): Sarawak / Sargus brevipennis n° 62 / Typus / brevipennis Rond. / Holotypus , Sargus brevipennis Rondani, 1875 , Mason & Rozkošný, 2003 / Ptecticus brevipennis (Rondani, 1875) , Mason & Rozkošný det., 2005. CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Ptecticus brevipennis ( James 1975: 19 , Mason & Rozkošný 2005: 52 , Woodley 2001: 210 , 2011: 403 ). REMARKS: Rondani (1875c: 454) described Sargus brevipennis from just the female, apparently mis-sexing it, without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths, from material collected by G. Doria and O. Beccari. Guiglia (1957: 194) and Raineri & Rey (1996: 50) reported the holotype (incorrectly as a ) in the MSNG. Mason & Rozkošný (2005: 49) correctly reported just one male in the MSNG.
