TYPE LOCALITY: “ Brésil … Guyana [ Brazil … Guyana ]” ( Macquart 1838a: 211 ) [localities for Sargus testaceus ( Fabricius, 1805 ) sensu Macquart (1838) ]. TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study. CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Ptecticus cyanifrons ( James 1973: 17 , Woodley 2001: 211 ). REMARKS: Rondani (1848b: 103) proposed Sargus cyanifrons for Sargus testaceus ( Fabricius, 1805 ) sensu Macquart (1838a: 211) , which he considered a new species. Rondani referred to Macquart’s redescription of the female of Sargus testaceus , so the types for Sargus cyanifrons Rondani should be in Macquart’s collection. The type material of Sargus cyanifrons has presumably been lost because it is not in the MNHN , OUMNH or MHNL where Macquart’s collection is distributed (E. Delfosse, Z. Simmons, O. Boilly, pers. comm., 2019).
