TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie prope padana Parmensis ditionis [Parmese plains near the Po valley ( Italy )]”. TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀ , lectotype (slightly covered with mold) ( MZUF : Box 8): Sphiximorpha Rndn. / petronillae Rnd. / 373 / lectotype Sphecomorpha [ sic !] petronillae Rondani, 1850 , design. Van Steenis, 2016 . PARALECTOTYPE EXAMINED: 1 ♀ ( MZUF : Box 8): Sphiximorpha Rndn. / petronillae Rnd. , / 373 / paralectotype Sphecomorpha [ sic !] petronillae Rondani, 1850 , design. van Steenis, 2016 . CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Peck 1988: 180 , Belcari et al. 1995a: 17 , Steenis et al . 2016: 197 ). REMARKS: Rondani (1850b: 213) described Sphiximorpha petronillae from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, despite there being two specimens in the type series found in this study: “ Faemina tantum speciei a me tecta [ sic !] [= lecta ] fuit [only the female of the species was collected by me]”. Van Steenis et al . (2016: 197) designated a lectotype ( ) and paralectotype ( ) and mistakenly reported that Rondani ascribed this nominal species to the genus Sphecomorpha Bezzi, 1906 .
