TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Sicilia [ Sicily ( Italy )]” ( Rondani 1871c: 168 ) . TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀ , holotype (very dirty) ( MZUF : Box 33): Spathulina Rnd. / sicula Rnd., Sicil. / 1729. REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 113) key for the genus Spathulina Rondani, 1856 lists Spathulina sicula as its type species, but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. In his redescription Rondani (1871c: 168) specified having a single female: “ Foeminam unicam in Sicilia captam a Ghiliani, olim Clar. Spinola mihi transmisit [Mr. Spinola formerly sent to me a single female collected in Sicilia by Ghiliani]”. We consider the single MZUF female as the holotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Articles 72.4.1.1 and 73.1.2).
