Diagnosis.
The new subspecies differs clearly from
M. l. lama
,
M. l. kortka
and
M. l. etugen
in the ash-grey ground colour and more diffuse pattern.
Description. External morphology

). Wingspan
35–40 mm
. Head, thorax and abdomen from pale to dark ash-grey. Ground colour of forewing varies from pale to dark ash-grey. Forewing pattern diffuse. Crosslines thin, double. Submarginal line pale, thin, dentate. Marginal line presented as a series of black dots between the veins. Basal dash short, thin, black. Claviform dark grey, with thin black border; median fascia thin, black. Median area shadowed around claviform and median fascia and in the cell also. Terminal area dark grey. Subterminal area inwards from the submarginal line sometimes with blackish cuneate streaks between the veins. Cilia dark grey. Hindwing pale, ash grey, discal spot diffuse, semilunar. Cilia pale grey.

in the somewhat narrower juxta and stronger sclerotised eversible dorso-lateral bar of carina; from
M. l. kortka
in the somewhat narrower juxta, more rounded cucullus and less dentate ventral margin of digitus; and from
M. l. etugen
in the somewhat smaller carina with stronger sclerotised eversible dorso-lateral bar.

. Siberian. Southeast Russian Altai.
Etymology.
The subspecies name is dedicated to brothers Eduard and Sergey Ayubaev (Altai Republic, Aktash), senior author's friends who were very helpful in organizing expeditions to Southeast Altai.
