Body robust and relative deep; scales on the flank are large and cycloid, with 44-46 scales in the lateral line; a small protractile mouth, with thick lips; teeth diminute and located on lips, not the jaws; 11 dorsal-fin rays; 10-11 anal-fin rays; forked caudal fin; a bifid spine anteriorly directed in front of dorsal fin; silverish coloration, with thin longitudinal lines along the body; pectoral and pelvic fins orange ( Serra et al., 2014 ; Almirón et al., 2015 ).
