He did not designate a type species or associate either of the two species described by Burmeister (1847) , viz. Acerus davus Burmeister, 1847 and Acerus phyllis Burmeister, 1847 . Since Burmeister (1847) did not designate a type species and no type species was designated in Prell’s (1936) original publication, “ Aceratus Prell, 1936 ” is unavailable and must not be used. Endrődi (1969) reviewed the genus and designated Acerus davus Burmeister, 1847 as the type species of Aceratus . Therefore, the genus must be attributed to him as below.
