Flavina nigrifrons
Zhang and Che
sp. nov.
Figs 1–3
,
10–19
.
Description.
Length, male (including tegmen):
11.2mm
, length of tegmen:
8.9mm
; female (including tegmen):
12.2mm
, length of tegmen:
9.2mm
.
Vertex testaceous; anterior, posterior and lateral margins brown. Eyes black. Frons and clypeus dark brown, the former testaceous near lateral margin. Rostrum pale brown. Pronotum brown with paler brown tubercula on disc. Mesoscutellum brown. Tegmen brown with veins greenish; wing dark brown. Legs brown with femora dark brown, tibiae greenish. Abdomen testaceous with apex of venter dark brown.
Vertex with sides adjacent eye slightly diverging, disc slightly depressed (
Figs 1
,
10
). Frons with inverted U-shaped carina dorsally; greatest width ventrally approximately 1.5x narrowest width beyond eyes dorsally (
Figs 2
,
11
). Thorax (
Figs 1
,
10
) with disc of pronotum with tubercula; mesoscutellum short and broad with median and lateral carinae, greatest width 2.0× medial length. Tegmen 2.3× longer than widest part; Sc long, reaching beyond midlength; M not branched; one cross vein between M and Cu1 medially; an extra vein arising after apex of clavus nearly parallel to Cu1b (
Fig. 12
). Wings 0.9× length of tegmen (
Fig. 13
).
Hind
tibia with 5 lateral teeth near apex. Spinal formula of hind leg 8–9–2.
Male genitalia:
Anal segment in dorsal view (
Fig. 15
) distinctly longer than greatest width apically, apical margin strongly concave, lateral margins strongly divergent from base to apex, anal foramen at midlength; in lateral view ventral margin convex in basal half, shallowly concave in distal half. Pygofer with caudal margin evenly rounded (
Fig. 14
). Phallus in profile shallowly curved with 2 short spiniform processes directed caudad near apex. Aedeagus in profile (
Fig. 16
) relatively straight; dorsal lobe undivided, swollen in lateral view; lateral lobes slender with apex tapering; ventral lobe slightly concave with apex slightly expanded and truncate in ventral view (
Fig. 17
); ventral spiniform processes directed caudomedially. Genital styles moderately long, nearly triangular, about twice as wide near base as apex, anterior margin truncate, ventral margin shallowly sinuate, apical margin more or less tapering and rounded, dorsal margin near base produced dorsad into large tapering lobe with apex acuminate and with short carina below lobe (
Fig. 14
).
Female genitalia:
Anal segment in dorsal view (
Fig. 19
) slightly longer than greatest width with lateral margins convex, apical margin shallowly concave (
Fig. 19
); in lateral view relatively wide basally with apex slightly curved downward and rounded, ventral margin sinuate; in lateral view apex rounded with ventral margin nearly straight. Ovipositor with first valvula curved dorsally, with 4 nearly parallel teeth; tooth near lateral margin with 2 small teeth. Third valvula stout, strongly convex, nearly triangular, with apical margin tumid and polished (
Fig. 18
). Pregenital sternite with apical margin nearly straight.

Paratype
: 1Ƥ, same data as

Remarks.
This species resembles
Flavina curculioides
(Distant)
, known only from the female, in size and in proportions of the vertex, but differs from the latter in the following characteristics: tegmen with M not forked subapically, with a short cross vein near midlength; frons dark brown with pale tubercula.
Etymology.
The specific name is derived from the Latin word “nigra”, referring to the dark frons of this species.
