Dennstaedtia bipinnata
(Cav.) Maxon, Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash.
51(8): 39. 1938
.
Range:—
Florida; Greater Antilles;
Mexico
to
Venezuela
and
Bolivia
(BE, CO, LP, SC).
Ecology:—
Common; terrestrial in humid forests, on the forest floor, riverbanks, rarely in open habitats;
200–1500 m
.
Notes:—
Tryon (1986)
, in a discussion of geographical variation, indicated that plants from different areas show variation in the size of the marginal teeth on pinnules. The dichotomous rhizomes and lack of petiolar buds are characteristic of both
D. bipinnata
and
D. globulifera
, but not found in other American species.
