Simulium ( Simulium ) tani Takaoka & Davies, 1995 complex Simulium ( Simulium ) tani Takaoka & Davies, 1995: 137 –141 (Female, male, pupa and larva). This species was described from females, males, pupae and larvae collected from Fraser’s Hill, Pahang (Takaoka and Davies, 1995). It is characterized in the female by the claw with a minute subbasal projection, and in the pupa by the gill with six slender filaments directed forwards and close together. The immature stages occur in small to medium-sized streams at low to high elevations ( 224–1,813 m ) in Cameron Highlands and other areas in the Peninsular Malaysia ( Ya’cob et al ., 2016a, b). This species was shown to be a species complex consisting of 10 cytoforms by a chromosome analysis in Thailand ( Tangkawanit et al ., 2009 ). The type of S. tani from Peninsular Malaysia was shown to be different from any cytoforms reported from Thailand and Taiwan and was designated as cytoform K of the S. ( S. ) tani complex ( Adler et al ., 2013 ).
