Remarks.
The status of the genus
Eucarlia
is still unresolved since the transfer of the four species known from the
Seychelles
to the Asian genus (
Golovatch & Korsós 1992
). The
variety shown
by the different
Eucarlia
species
in their anterior and posterior gonopods (
Golovatch & Gerlach 2010
) indicates that more than one genus might be hiding behind the name. The species described below is the first record of the genus from
Madagascar
. The assignment of the new species to
Eucarlia
is tentative at best, given the unclear definition of the genus. However, as the only other alternative would be the description of a new monotypic genus—already the 16th of the family
Pachybolidae
known from
Madagascar
, the species described below is tentatively placed in
Eucarlia
.
