( Figs 10 , 16 ) Hercostomus panamensis Van Duzee, 1931: 185 , fig. 24. Type locality: Barro Colorado Island , Panama . FIGURE 10. Paraclius panamensis (Van Duzee) comb. nov. , male holotype (AMNH). A. Habitus, lateral view; B. Head and thorax, lateral view; C. Labels; D. Head, anterior view; E. Abdomen and hypopygium, lateral view. Images originally lacked scale bars. Photographs by Courtney Richenbacher, AMNH. Diagnosis (male). Face as wide as ocellar tubercle at middle ( Fig. 10D ). Antenna reddish yellow, with postpedicel brownish on apical 2/3 ( Fig. 10B, D ); postpedicel slightly longer than wide, slightly pointed at apex. Legs : mostly yellow, except lateral surface of coxa II, It 5 and tarsus II and III from apex of tarsomere 1 onwards brownish ( Fig. 10A, B ). Tarsus I with ventral surface from apical 2/3 of It 1 covered by pile of whitish setae. Tarsus II and III unmodified. Wing gently brownish, M 1 gradually angled towards R 4 +5 ( Fig. 10A ). Hypopygium slightly shorter than abdomen ( Fig. 10A ); cercus yellow, branched, ventral branch short, about 1/5 of length of epandrium, narrowing at apex ( Fig. 10E ). Examined type material. HOLOTYPE ♁ (based on photographs) ( Fig. 10 ) labelled as: “Barro Colo Isld. [ca 9°09′26.7″N 79°50′37.2″W ] | Canal Zone | xii-26-1928 ”; “Collector | C. H. Curran ”; “ Hercostomus | panamensis [handwritten] | Holotype Van Duzee” ( AMNH ). Remarks. Van Duzee (1931) did not provide any comments on his decision about the generic placement of this species, but it is clearly part of the latipes -group, sharing with the other species the characters listed above in the diagnosis. Distribution. Panama (Barro Colorado Island) ( Fig. 16 ).
