Adult female and male with 28–29 pairs of dorsal setae (17 podonotal and 11–12 opisthonotal), 19–20 pairs inserted on dorsal shield, three pairs on laterodosal elements ( s2 , r2 and r3 ) and six pairs on lateral membranous integument; setae j3 , j4 , j6 , z2 , z4 , s4 , s5 , s6 , S3 , S4 and S5 clearly longer, can be 12 times longer than J5 ; seta JV5 more than 10 times longer than J5 ; setae z2 approximately four times longer than setae s2 ; dorsum of male similar to that of female. Opisthonotal setae J2 , J3 , Z2 and Z5 absent. Peritreme extending from stigmata between coxae III–IV to middle region of coxae II. Description. Female. Idiosoma . Length: 623–674, width: 414–476 (n=5). Dorsal idiosoma ( Fig. 27 ). Dorsal shield ovoid (517–535 long, 302–324 wide) with posterior margin rounded; shield punctate, with a few antero-lateral striate; anterolateral incisions of dorsal shield reach beyond level of z2 . Dorsal shield with 23 pairs of simple, smooth setae, heterogeneous in length; setae j3 (127–137 long), j4 (112–129), j6 (87–109), z2 (115), z4 (141), s4 (146), s5 (145), s6 (124), S2 (136), S3 (141) and S5 (122) elongated; j1 (27), j2 (39), j5 (17), J1 (present or absent) = J4 = J5 (11), z1 (13), z5 (12), Z3 and Z4 as long as setae J series; s2 (22), r2 (56) and r3 (45) on laterodosal elements; setae r5 (38–54), s6 , R1 (38) and R3-R5 (66–69) on lateral soft cuticle. Dorsal shield with 20 pairs of pore-like structures (eight podonotal, 12 opisthonotal), of which six (three podonotal, three opisthonotal) appear secretory (gland pores) and 14 (five podonotal, nine opisthonotal) non-secretory (lyrifissures); poroid Rp3 , idS4 and idS5 on soft cuticle. Ventral idiosoma ( Fig. 31 ). Tritosternum typical of genus (base 40 long, laciniae 90). Sternal shield (142 long, 136 wide at level of st2 , 175 between coxae II and III) with a dense fine granulation; anterior and posterior margins irregular, three pairs of setae ( st1 and st2 37 long and st3 51) and three pairs of lyrifissures (the first and second diagonally oriented, third on posterior margin horizontally oriented) on the shield; st4 (54) on soft cuticle, flanked by endopodal shields between coxae III and IV. Genital shield 144 long, 80 wide at level st5 (64) located laterally on shield; positions of iv5 and gv2 as for genus. Opisthogaster with five pairs of simple setae, JV1 (42), JV2 (51), JV5 (129), ZV2 (43) and ZV3 (32). Anal shield pear-shaped, 106 long, ca 83 wide, para-anal setae 18 long, postanal seta 31; cribrum well developed. Metapodal and parapodal plates present. Peritrematal plates with gland pore gp1 and one lyrifissure ip1 ( Fig. 31 ); poststigmatic gland pores gp2 inserted on soft cuticle; peritremes extending to middle of coxae II, 172 long. Spermathecal apparatus without distinctly sclerotized structures, but usually with a discernible tube from solenostome on base of legs III to a narrow calyx. FIGURES 27–30. Hypostomal setae simple and smooth, h1 (25), h2 (37), h3 (18), and (20) long. Chelicera 148 long; movable chela 50 long and fixed chela 36; fixed digit with a large median and two small teeth, one subterminal and other one proximal. Pilus dentilis setiform and fine; dorsal seta small and near proximal lyrifissure; movable digit with one median tooth, with fringed hyaline process at its base. Legs . Leg chaetotaxy typical of genus. Ventral modified setae av -1 on tarsi II–IV ( Fig. 29 a) 16 long. Length of legs as follows: leg I, 452 long; II, 397; III, 416 and IV, 541. Male. Idiosoma . Dorsal shield: 465–503 long, 261–300 wide (n=2). Dorsal idiosoma ( Fig. 30 ). Dorsal shield (460–471 long, 248–269 wide) densely covered with punctations. Dorsal chaetotaxy, adenotaxy and poroidotaxy similar to those of female. Lateral incisions reduced, reaching base of setae r2 or r3 . Ventral idiosoma ( Fig. 32 ). Base of tritosternum 19 long, laciniae pilose and free 64 long; sternogenital shield 250 long, 85 wide at level of setae st2 and 64 at level of setae st5 , anteriorly densely covered with fine granulations, posteriorly, between setae st5 , with dense punctuations, extending beyond the posterior border of coxae IV and fused with endopodal elements between coxae I–II, II–III and III–IV; setae st1 and st2 (20 long), st3 (22), st4 (26) and st5 (33) thickened; genital opening on the shield (21 wide), anterior to setae st1 . Ventral idiosomal adenotaxy and poroidotaxy similar to those of female; JV5 (102) is longest ventral setae, JV1 (25), JV2 (23), ZV2 (20) and ZV3 (15); anal shield pear-shaped, 92 long, 62 wide. Parapodal and metapodal plates present. Gnathosoma . Gnathotectum triangular, slightly dentate ( Fig. 28 b); subcapitulum typical of genus. Length of hypostomal and capitular setae: h1 , 20; h2 , 33; h3 , 13 and c , 16. Chelicera 115 long and 35 wide, movable chelae with two teeth (43 long) and fixed chela with a median tooth and 35 long; spermatodactyl 20 long; hyaline process indistinct. Legs . Legs chaetotaxy typical of genus. Length of legs I–IV: 317, 300, 304 and 402 respectively. Seta av - 1 on tarsi II–IV modified and nearly conical, 11 long ( Fig. 29 b). Deutonymph. Idiosoma . Length: 411–458, width: 288–326 (n=2). Dorsal idiosoma ( Fig. 26 ). Dorsal shield (395–427 length, 200–231 width) with 21–22 pairs of setae; setae j1 , j2 , j4 , j5 and j6 with 10–18 long, j3 longer (26); setae z1 , z2 , z5 , s2 , s4 and s5 , respectively, 11, 31, 11, 13, 45 and 62 long; soft cuticle with r2 , r3 , r5 , s6 (15, 15, 19, 57 long respectively) in podonotal region and R1 , R3-R5 , on opisthonotal region (18, 16, 14, 61 long respectively). Dorsal idiosomal complement of lyrifissures and gland-pores similar to those of female. Ventral idiosoma . Tritosternal base 29 long; laciniae 83 long; sternal shield (188 long, 63 width at level of setae st2 ), with four pairs of setae ( st1 =18, st2 =21, st3 =21, st4 =21) and three pairs of lyrifissures; setae st5 (19) and paragenital lyrifissures inserted on soft cuticle at level of posterior margin of sternal shield. Endopodal shields between coxae II–III and III–IV, and parapodal present. Peritremes 120 long. Anal shield (81 long and 74 wide) pear-shaped, para-anal setae 19 and postanal seta 24 long; adanal gland pores inserted as in adults; cribrum well developed. Opisthogaster with five pairs of ventral setae: JV1 , JV2 , ZV2 , ZV3 (15–18 long) and JV5 (61). Gnathosoma . Chelicera 107 long and 32 wide; movable chela 37 and fixed chela 28 long. Hypostomal setae h1 (18), h2 (38), h3 (12) and capitular setae (13) smooth and simple. Legs . Pretarsi, claws, and chaetotaxy of legs I–IV similar to adult female; av -1 thickened and tri-dentate, 12 long; length of legs I–IV, 300, 269, 258 and 335, respectively. Material examined. Holotype . Female: NE Iran , Razavi Khorasan province, Torbat Heydarie, Feiz-Abad ( 34º 57' 23" N , 58º 45' 18" E ), altitude 895 m , ex Scarabaeus transcaspicus , 5 May 2007 (deposited in AETMU ). Paratypes . 27 females , 3 males , 5 deutonymphs, same data as holotype (deposited in AETMU ); 2 females , 1 male , same data as holotype (deposited in MZUNAV); 1 female , same data as holotype (deposited in MZTU ). Etymology. The species is named in honour of the famous philosopher, astronomer, mathematician and poet of Iran , Omar Khayyam Neishaburi. Notes. Cryptoseius khayyami differs from the type species C . petrovae Makarova, 1998 in the number of long dorsal setae in the j series in adults, four pairs in C . petrovae ( j3-j6 ) and three pairs in C . khayyami sp. nov. ( j3 , j4 and j6 ) and in the relative length of several dorsal setae in deutonymphs: r5 > R1 , R1 = 1/3 s6 , S4 < S5 = ½ S 3 in C . petrovae and r5 < R1 , R1 = ½ s6 , S4 = S5 = S 3 in C . khayyami sp. nov.
