Water mites (Acari: Hydrachnidia) from the hyporheic waters of the Selwyn River (New Zealand), with descriptions of nine new species Author Pesic, Vladimir Author Smit, Harry Author Datry, Thibault text Zootaxa 2010 2355 1 34 journal article 10.5281/zenodo.193562 67cd7b8b-327c-4a51-8c8e-38dec04bde4b 1175-5326 193562 Paratryssaturus cantermus Cook, 1983 ( Fig. 2K , 21 A–B) Material examined . New Zealand , South Island, Selwyn River near Coalgate, 10.v.2004 , 0/2/0 (0/1/0 mounted). Remarks. Due to the subterminal position of excretory pore ( Fig. 21 A) and pronounced projection on IV- L-2 ( Fig. 21 B), the specimens from Selwyn river show conformity with Paratryssaturus cantermus Cook, 1983 , a widespread species reported from North and South Island ( Cook 1983 ). Differences are found in the dorsal shield ornamentation which consists of a reticulate pattern ( Fig. 2K ) but is lacking the papillae characteristic for P. cantermus (see Cook 1983 , Fig. 590). The variability of further specimens needs to be examined to clarify the taxonomy. Distribution . New Zealand ; previously reported from North and South Island ( Cook 1983 ).
