Brachyodynerus
Blüthgen, 1938
is a Palaearctic genus that includes nine species from East and South Europe, North Africa, Western and Central Asia (van der
Vecht & Fischer 1972
;
Kurzenko 1981
;
Gusenleitner 2013a
); one species,
Brachyodynerus perrarus
Kurzenko, 1977
was described from China (west of Inner Mongolia). Representatives of the genus differ from other related genera of the tribe Odynerini (
sensu
Hermes
et al.
2014
) by the extremely large tegula that is rounded posteriorly and coarsely sculpted, and by their propodeal valvula having a noticeable spine-like upper lobe. Species of this genus are small but usually brightly colored wasps. The bionomics of the genus were previously unknown.
