AULACIGASTRIDAE
This family, known from the north of
Italy
, has a few species in all zoogeographic regions. Only three are found in Europe and all are associated with woodland, particularly forests of
Quercus
where the larvae develop in exuding sap from the tree trunks. These flies are also occasionally attracted to carrion.
Carles-Tolrá & Garcia Rojo (2015)
collected three species in
Spain
using beef liver.
